NBA Commemorative Poster

PROJECT SCOPE
• Clearly present record-setting data
• Layer in secondary levels of data to enhance the user experience
• Design a visually elegant and powerful poster to celebrate Russell’s achievements

As Russell Westbrook was shredding teams on his way to a record-setting season in 2017, the Oklahoma City Thunder reached out to me for an assist. They wanted a poster for the team magazine to commemorate his season in which he had a record-setting 42 triple-doubles and averaged a triple-double for the season. As an NBA poster collector as a child, I wanted to design something that any Thunder fan would hang on their wall proudly. The front had to be powerful and clean, while elegantly displaying the purpose of the poster, and the back, a stat lovers dream.

The driving force of the visualization was to creatively display the point, rebound, and assist numbers for the 42 games. I explored dozens of different layout and design concepts before choosing a bar chart with a twist. After establishing the centerpiece, it was time to give the reader a more complete picture of the season and it's place in history beyond the stats anyone could find online. I integrated milestone moments, a deeper look into the numbers, current and former player comparisons and purposeful photos to show off his confidence, intensity and smile, giving the fans the opportunity to relive each point, rebound and assist for years to come.
